TOWN OF VINLAND – The Winnebago County Sheriff Dept. is looking for information about human remains found last week in the town of Vinland.

The remains were found near the railroad tracks, south of County GG, just east of Interstate 41.

The initial examination determined that the remains appear to be those of a white male with an unknown age. The investigation was also able to determine that the remains had been at this location anytime from January of 2013 to December of 2014.

Further forensic testing is being conducted to determine the identification of the deceased and the cause of death.

Officials waited to release information to the public until they contacted local families who are missing loved ones, Mack said.

"We're showing them photos of the clothes that were at the scene, property that was at the scene, and seeing if any of them could identify if any of that belonged to their loved ones. To be blunt, the answer was no from all of them," Mack said. "There are some dental records we can utilize, but as of right now we really have no idea who this is."

A ruleout based on the family not recognizing the clothes and other belongings that might have been there is not really definitive though. Anyone could have some stuff that the family hasn't seen or doesn't remember, and anything he wasn't wearing could be even just randomly and coincidentally there and not associated with the deceased while he was alive.

I submitted this missing person as a possibility to the Winnebago County Sheriff tonight. Todd has been missing since 10/14/14, was 50 at the time of disappearance and is white. Marquette is a few hours away from Vinland/Winnebago county.

Missing October 14th 2014:
Clothing: Unknown, possible camouflage
Hallstrom was last seen at his residence in Silver Lake, MN on 10/14/14. His vehicle was located in Belle Plaine around 10/16-18 where witnesses report that a man matching his description was leaving the vehicle and riding away on a bicycle.

October in Minnesota is as cold as Wisconsin, so dressing in layers would be something this MP might have done. Possibly wearing Camo, and the UP was in Camo jacket. UP was found less than 5 hours (319 miles) away from where the MP was last seen
 
I don't think it would hurt anything by making a submission. There is not a lot to go off of in regards to approx. height or weight.

I did speak with the Winnebago detective, while he is skeptical that it could be a match because Troy is listed as being 220lbs and the man found was wearing size 33X32 pants, making him a slimmer male.
However, he said he would look into the possibility of a match. Still awaiting news on the progress.
 
The Winnebago County Sheriff’s Department, in an effort to identify the remains of a man found in 2015, is looking to upgraded scientific testing to unlock the mystery.

Lt. Chris Braman told USA TODAY NETWORK-Wisconsin that evidence was submitted to Parabon NanoLabs of Reston, Virginia, in 2019. The lab contacted the sheriff’s department recently and requested additional DNA material for testing.

The man has been identified as Roland D. Klug, of Oshkosh, born in 1949. Klug was originally from Waupun and had served in the Vietnam War.

OSHKOSH - Human remains that were found in the town of Vinland in 2015 have been identified, the Winnebago County Sheriff's Office announced Tuesday night.

The man has been identified as Roland D. Klug, of Oshkosh, born in 1949.

Klug was originally from Waupun and had served in the Vietnam War, according to a news release from the sheriff's office. The release did not say how Klug had died.
