CA - San Jose girl 13, fights off sexual predator in her home *Arrest*

Authorities in northern California are searching for a “bold” sexual predator whose brazen attack in broad daylight on a teenager as she returned home from school was caught on home surveillance camera.


In the video, the man can be seen trailing the 13-year-old girl as she makes her way home Tuesday in San Jose, California. He approaches her on the front step of her house before forcing his way into the girl’s home through the door.

Mohammad Khaliqi, 31, of San Jose was arrested in the 1400 block of School Street in San Leandro, Calif. on Friday, May 8, 2015 in connection to two sexual assaults.

...On April 2, the same suspect is believed to have followed a 28-year-old woman into a public restroom at Mitsuwa Marketplace, a Japanese grocery store at 675 Saratoga Avenue.

He attempted to sexually assault the woman in the restroom and fled before police arrived.

Police released surveillance photos of the man from both locations.

During a press conference Friday, police said Khaliqi lived within walking distance of the 13-year-old. According to investigators, he left his San Jose home in the middle of the night and altered his appearance by shaving his head and his beard when he realized police were looking for him.

Khaliqi who is a resident of San Jose, fled in the middle of the night after information on him was released, police said. He altered his appearance by shaving his head and beard, which is not uncommon in cases where the suspect is on the run, police said. He lived within walking distance from where both crimes occurred.

Public tips led police to a home in San Leandro on the 400 block of School Street, where the 31-year-old was arrested without incident Friday morning. Police could not say how Khaliqi was associated with that address, only that he was arrested there without incident around 10:25 a.m. Friday.


He was being booked into Santa Clara County Jail on multiple counts of burglary, attempted sexual assault, and false imprisonment.
