Richard Vilardo, 65, and his wife Julianne, 67 were found dead Sunday 5/10/15 with sharp force injuries to the upper body. A window was found open.

Police said they believe someone may have made entry into the home through a window. At the scene, Starks said a latch or the locking mechanism on one of the home's windows was not engaged, although the glass was not broken. He would not say which window.

The couple’s daughter came to check on her parents after they never showed up for a Mother’s Day event. When she arrived at their home, she found both dead–still in their pajamas.
Police say Richard was found dead in their backyard; his wife inside the home–both with trauma to their upper bodies.

The photo of them makes this even sadder, they looked so happy. What an awful situation for the daughter to be dealing with, not only to find her parents dead but on Mother's Day as well. Heartbreaking. Hope this is solved soon and arrests are made.

Seeing they found a window open as the point of entry, it sounds like when they came home that night, they surprised a burglar. How sad.

Maybe the burglar was in the home hiding when they came home out or he came during the night when they were sleeping. They were both in pajamas.

On this video, they say they are investigating some tree trimmers who were in the area that weekend. Also the couple had been at the neighbors across the street until midnight before the murders.

Oh that's right they were in their pajamas. You're right someone was probably hiding.

LE says the couple was killed during a burglary. The large, messy crime scene - indicative of a violent struggle - has made it difficult to tell what might be missing, a source told WUSA.

Capt. Paul Starks with the Montgomery County Police Department only added Monday that they confirmed the couple was having dinner with friends on Saturday night in Charles Town, WV before they returned home that evening and it was the last time they were known to be alive. Neighbors have said that they were at the Hollywood Casino but police would not elaborate any further with details about exactly where they were that night.

Although it may very well just be a burglary by someone who has worked around the house etc, I'm wondering if they won money at the casino and someone tracked them home?

Wow, if this is the guy it's their next-door neighbor. What the heck was he doing in Alaska? The video mentions the arrest was made at a Carnival Cruise stop. Wonder if he went on a cruise with his parents with whom he lived...I hope that's the case because otherwise it's a bit worrisome that people in the neighborhood report that there has been no activity in their house since last week.

There are a surprising number of people with this name but I'm 99.9% sure this is his FB (name, location, age (based on HS grad date) all match). https://www.facebook.com/scott.tomaszewski.5

Scott Michael Tomaszewski was arrested in Juneau on a burglary warrant from Montgomery County, officials in the Juneau Police Department said. His age was given as 31.

Montgomery police have said they believed whoever attacked the Vilardos may have taken advantage of an open window to enter their house.

He was aboard a docked cruise ship when arrested, the Juneau police said.

The case was broken by a retired officer who remembered a burglary case from 17 years before where the suspect in the murders was involved.

When he was arrested he had bloodstained money in his wallet. Also linked to another burglary in the neighborhood that occurred on Easter. It seems that he pawned a high school ring from those victims.

Lots more info here. He was with his parents on the cruise and was about to depart the ship to go whale watching.

Investigators had spent days examining the Vilardos’ home, piecing together the attack. They said they think that early on Mother’s Day — May 10 — Tomaszewski cut through a window screen, lifted the window, attacked at least one of the Vilardos in their bedroom, and continued the assault in the kitchen and rear patio.

This is such a sad story. And to think that the Vilardo's daughter found them if I read correctly. How awful! Tomaszewski is a disgusting ghoul -- happily vacationing in a beautiful place with his elderly parents when days before he brutally murdered two people.

Can't imagine how or what his parents are thinking, did they leave the ship or stayed in board? It would be awful to return to their home or neighborhood when your son murdered the next door neighbors. This man roamed the neighborhood stealing for years. Jmo

ciao

Here is a link for Falcon500's info:
Tomaszewski had apparently been housesitting for the Vilardos in April 1998 when their home was burglarized but was not a suspect in that case, Manger said.

He confessed to the murders in a "matter of fact" way.

He was not a suspect yet the retired officer remembered that Tomaszewski was a suspect and made the call that broke open the case. In police work you may be retired but you still have an obligation to help and pass on information from the past.
