IL - Jone Knapton, 46, East Moline, 4 July 2003
The husband of Jone Knapton, the East Moline woman who was murdered and dismembered two years ago, is in police custody after being arrested on child pornography charges.
Larry Knapton, 50, is scheduled to appear Monday in Cass County District Court in Atlantic, Iowa, to face extradition to Illinois.
Knapton, a jewelry dealer who local police say has moved several times since his wife's murder, was arrested Wednesday in Anita, Iowa, by Cass County deputies.
He was arrested on six counts of child pornography, based on an arrest warrant that was issued in Lake County, Ill.
He and the late Jone Fanning Knapton were in the process of getting a divorce when she disappeared and parts of her body were found in the Green River near Geneseo, Ill., in July 2003. Her head never was found, but her torso was identified through DNA testing.
Though Larry Knapton never has been named an official suspect in the case, police have acknowledged an ongoing interest in talking to him.
Earlier this month, the couple's daughter, Nicole, extended the order of protection she has against her father in Rock Island County.

Why is it that when a custodial parent fails to provide for a child it is called neglect and is a criminal matter. But when a non custodial parent fails to provide it is called failure to support and is a civil matter?

The Murder Of Jone Knapton
The Murder Of Jone Knapton
Upon hearing the story, you can't help but feel a sense of loss and disappointment. But for Jone's family and friends these feelings are not occasional-they are every day. Each Memorial Day weekend is a reminder of the birthday Jone will not celebrate. Each Fourth of July weekend is haunted by the memories of her disappearance and murder. She won't be having the family over and cooking for them this Christmas or Easter.

The family raised $40,000 in donations for a reward for information leading to a break in the case, but there have been no arrests, and the family has stopped taking money...
The family is frustrated the investigation has not made more headway, Ms. Mickelson said, adding they would rather see a trial and have the defendant be found innocent than have no trial at all. "We're all willing to take that chance"...
The state police and Henry County State's Attorney's Office do not believe there is enough evidence to take the case forward at the moment, Master Sgt. Endress said.
