McKeesport woman admits to killing husband

Patricia Katchur, 56, admitted responsibility for the third-degree murder of Christopher Katchur, 52, on May 13, 2015, according to the DA's office. She was sentenced to 15 to 30 years in prison.
    http://www.post-gazette.com/local/ea...s/201701230146

During the hearing, Mr. Katchur’s family members described a man who spent all of his extra time with his two young granddaughters, was a strong role model and best friend to his two sons from a previous relationship, and who loved playing the guitar.

“He showed me everything I am today,” said his youngest son, Joseph Katchur. “We were inseparable. He was my everything. She took him from me. Her selfish, cowardly act of murder took him from me for the rest of my life.

“Although she tried to ruin our family, she pulled us closer together.”

    From the article above:

"A McKeesport woman on Monday pleaded guilty to fatally shooting her husband while he was attempting to serve her a protection from abuse order, the Allegheny County District Attorney's office announced."

Why was he serving her the protection from abuse order? Does the sheriff's office (or whatever the local service is called) not do this? Expecting the victim to serve the order puts the victim in a very dangerous situation. I simply can't believe that this would be normal protocol.

IMO, it's definitely not protocol. At the end of that same article, it seems to suggest that the victim chose not to have law enforcement serve it on her. Though it isn't clear whether he chose to serve her because LE had not yet found her to be able to serve it, or whether he chose from the beginning to just serve her himself. In other words, it's unclear whether serving the order himself was plan A or plan B.

    From the same article:

Katchur attempted to serve the order instead of having a police officer or constable do so. A spokesman for District Attorney Stephen A. Zappala Jr. has said anyone can serve a protection from abuse order.
