CANADA - Partial remains of Teresa Robinson, 11, found, Garden Hill, MB, 5 May 2015

An 11 year old girl went missing on May 5th, on the Garden Hill Reserve in Manitoba. She had been at a birthday party but did not return. She was reported missing on May 11th. She was discovered the same day in the woods and was thought to have been mauled by a bear. RCMP has ruled this case a homicide, saying that animal activity occurred on her remains but that "there's no evidence animals played a part in her death. Her remains are yet to be positively identified as being Teresa although RCMP believe the remains are hers. No arrests or POI as of yet.

    RIP Teresa.

So why was she not reported missing right away? 6 days later? And found on the same day? I heard about this case on the news and expected that she was in fact killed by an animal. Mauling by bear would be unusual IMO. There would be enough food for the animal in the spring. JMO

First Nation leaders said Teresa was last seen leaving a birthday party in Garden Hill on May 5. A local search began after she didn't return home.
Kolody said RCMP were notified of Teresa's disappearance on Monday. Her body was found by a community searcher later that day.

An organized search for the girl did not begin until Sunday night, according to the head of the northern chiefs' group, David Harper.

Conflicting info in this earlier CBC article:

Harper said Robinson was last seen leaving a birthday party in the community at around 9 p.m. on May 5. A search was launched May 7, but RCMP weren't contacted until May 8, he said.

So sad. And so odd that a group of people searched after she went missing and then did nothing more for almost a week. Makes me think family had a good idea who she was with. Wonder if she was dead since May 5 or if she was abducted, molested, murdered and then disposed of in the woods.

How far are the woods where she was found from the route she would have taken home? I know we can't sleuth family, but just wondering if any relatives are SO's ... or family members of her friends who may have taken her with them when they arrived to pick up another child from the party.

Wow. Sounds like they are just throwing dates out there. All except the date of the party, May 5.

I'm with you, Matou. I think someone is being protected. The community knows who did this. I hope someone will speak up for this precious little girl.

Teresa would have turned 12 on Thursday.

RCMP are asking anyone with information to contact the Island Lake RCMP at 204-456-2290 or call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477

Another publication stating that it took 6 days to inform LE about Teresa's disappearance.

Robinson was last seen leaving a birthday party on May 5, six days before she was reported missing to the RCMP.

She was headed home but never made it, and her father thought she may have simply decided to sleep over at a friend’s house, according to David Harper, grand chief of the Manitoba Keewatinowi Okimakanak.

It was a few days later that a family member called the school and a community search was launched, Harper said earlier this week.

WTH? I'm confused. Harper said RCMP were contacted three days after Teresa disappeared and now the Canadian Press has that it was in fact 6 days later. What is going on with this case? This is not cool. JMO

    From a First Nations publication:
The RCMP said Robinson was reported missing on May 11, the same day the body was discovered. The statement said she had gone missing before police received the report.

Community searchers knocked on doors looking for Teresa on May 7. The next day, a wider community search combed the reserve. The RCMP were officially notified Teresa was missing on Monday, the same day her body was found.

Asked why it took several days for family to file a missing persons report with police, Kolody said establishing a timeline is an "integral part of the investigation."

He wouldn't comment on whether there are signs of foul play in Teresa's death, but said that is also part of the RCMP's investigation.

Garden Hill Reserve is accessible as a fly-in or winter ice roads area way up in the boondocks of northern Manitoba. The nearest RCMP police is a plane trip away. Who knows what kind of challenges they have in trying to contact the RCMP, especially when the ice is melting in the spring. I wouldn't attach a huge significance to the delay in reporting.
