Cassandra Rhines was last heard from in June 1985, when she called a friend to confirm her attendance at her goddaughter’s birthday party in Minneapolis the next day. She never showed, and was never heard from again.

The remains were found in May 2014 by an off-duty employee of the Lake County Sheriff's Office. The employee was training his dogs in a remote area of Gooseberry Falls State Park - an area not frequented by visitors - when he found a skull. Later searches turned up additional bones.

Rhines had been the victim of homicide, and it is beleived that she was killed near the time of her disappearance, killed elsewhere and then her body was left in the park.

Investigators need the public’s help to better understand who Cassandra Rhines knew and who may have sought to harm her.

Found deceased! R.I.P. Cassandra

I don't get it-they found her skull-why wasn't her death being investigated as a murder then?

Her remains were found a year and a half ago. It was called homicide at that time and has been under investigation ever since. That's how it reads to me anyway.

Oh, dear, I got married at Gooseberry Falls. It's about 5 hours drive from Minneapolis.

While tips have been received over the past 12 months, the case remains unsolved...

They released a photograph of Rhines with a man whose identity was unknown who may have been living with Rhines at the time she disappeared... “Based off of the information we got from the press conference and releasing her picture, we were able to identify the male as Donald McSwain and verify that he was in fact living with her at the time, but has since died,” Johnson said.

Johnson said the tips also led to the identity of a friend that worked with Rhines as an exotic dancer. “We tracked down Rhines’ friend and found that she was also deceased,” Johnson said. “We felt that she would have had information we could have used, but hit that roadblock again.”

IMHO This is sad. Bless her heart she has been waiting a long time to come home. Hopefully, they will find out who did this. These cases of someone missing for a long time break my heart.
