TX - Central Texas Flash Floods leave missing and deceased victims, May 2015

Former County Commissioner's family among missing
Overnight flooding claimed hundreds of homes near Wimberley, Texas, and former Nueces County Commissioner Joe McComb has confirmed his son was seriously injured and that his daughter-in-law and two grandchildren are among the missing.

Several others who were staying with the McCombs, including Ralph Carey, Michelle and Randy Charba and their son Will, are also missing according to an online statement from The Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd in Corpus Christi.

McComb tells KRIS 6 Jonathan McComb, his wife, Laura and their two children, both under the age of 10, were visiting the home of Ralph and Sue Carey when the flood waters "swept the house away.

Before you criticize someone, you should walk a mile in their shoes. That way, when you criticize them, you're a mile away and you have their shoes.

"When from a long distant past nothing persists, after the people are dead, after things are broken and scattered, still alone, more persistent, more faithful, the smell and taste of things remain poised a long, long time like souls, ready to remind us, waiting, hoping for their moment amid the ruins of all the rest, and bear unfaltering in the tiny and almost impalpable drop of their essence the vast structure of recollection."

1 dead, 3 missing as Hays County bears the brunt of flooding
    3:00 p.m. Sunday, May 24, 2015 | Filed in: Local

The Hays County cities of San Marcos and Wimberley were hardest hit early Sunday after torrential rain swelled the normally scenic Blanco River into a destructive wall of water.

At least one person has died as a result of the massive flooding, said Ken Bell, the emergency management coordinator for San Marcos. The man, whose name was not released, was discovered in San Marcos on Sunday afternoon, Bell said.

Separately, Hays County officials are searching for three missing Wimberley residents.

LIVE: Massive flooding in South Central Texas
Updated: Sunday, May 24 2015, 03:03 PM CDT

    [...]
Some parts of Texas have seen up to 10 inches of rain in 24 hours, and the waters continue to overwhelm communities. Dozens of high-water rescues in Central Texas were reported overnight as the Blanco River and other swollen waterways breached their banks and residents early Sunday fled their homes.

The Blanco River swamped sections of Interstate 35 on Sunday, forcing parts of the busy north-south highway to close. The National Weather Service says the river crested Sunday at more than 40 feet; its flood stage is 13 feet.

34 years ago, one of the worst floods in Austin's history devastated homes along Shoal and Walnut Creeks.

That night 10 inches of rain fell on Austin in just four hours.
Areas near the Blanco River almost got that much last night.

See where the water is gushing? That's the road to the heart of Wimberley, where the most damage is.

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) — The Trinity River was cresting near 40 feet Sunday afternoon.
The river hits “major flood” stage at 40 feet; anything over that could close bridges and cause major flooding. Nearby residents fear it could reach foundations of buildings near downtown Dallas.

This May marks the wettest May in Dallas history.

6:16pm CST UPDATE: CBS 11 is receiving reports of people entering the levee floodway on foot. Do not enter this area, it could be dangerous. The Office of Emergency Management tells CBS 11 they do not have the personnel to secure all 26 miles of riverbank in Dallas. Please stay away from dangerous areas around the Trinity River

Hoping this crazy weather is over. Some places got more rain in one storm than we get in a year.
