A man questioned over the disappearance of toddler William Tyrrell has been charged with five counts of sexual intercourse with a child under the age of 10 and two counts of common assault.

Police will allege Whitegoods repairman Bill Spedding sexually assaulted two girls, aged three and six, in Sydney 1987.

The accused yelled "no" when he was arrested by homicide detectives at his Bonny Hills home on Wednesday, about seven months after William vanished from the yard of his grandmother's home in Kendall, wearing his favourite Spider-Man outfit.

Auckland and Wellington - Holy Crap - why? Is it some kind of legal loophole or something else that gives these monsters the courage to offend in NZ? The first four on the list does not surprise me, and I have heard about a lot of social problems/unrest (drink, drug and family violence problems) from Kiwis who have left because of those reasons, but to have two cities as a child sex tourist destination is terrifying.

Apollosong ... The reports were from 2007.

The interesting thing about those arrests was the fact that some of the individuals arrested lived in either places Bill had lived... or had lived in close proximity too.

There is also other close associations of Bills who live in close proximity to a few of those areas. One particular name could possibly be a direct known associate - not proved!! just simply a possibility....but worthy of consideration considering the police were indicating Bill may have been part of a ring.

Even though these guys were round up in 2007 - there is always the possibility that others involved escaped the police net at that time.

About fake passports. Australia has e-passports with chip inlays (since 2005) and they are much harder to copy or forge than the old style.

The passport holders photo is also stored digitally on the chip in the passport to combat identity fraud.

Is there anywhere on the courts online that gives the official court date? I'm still confused as to whether it's June or August. Don't you just love Australian journalism..

The problem is that someone may arrive in Australia with a fake passport for a child from Singapore, or Whoknowswhere, and use it to get a child out of Australia.

Does anyone know the date BS is due in court?
court lists can only be viewed 2 weeks prior so if its a june court appearence we should be able to see it on the court list soon, its not showing yet
