    OR - Lizabeth Stevens, 87, Ashland, 26 May 2015

I'm starting a thread for this sweet lady with dementia. She just moved into an Ashland, OR senior living community from CA. I met her on Monday and this morning she is missing. Please keep her in your thoughts and prayers.

More information at these links. I do want to clarify that this is not a dementia or memory care facility. It is divided between independent living and assisted living. Although some residents in assisted living have dementia, this is not intended to be a secure, locked-down facility. There is 24 hour (excellent) staffing in assisted living, and some residents have private caregivers in addition to the staff, but many do not. Half of the assisted living apartments are at ground level and have patios with outside access, so it would be easy for a confused resident to wander off.

The staff searched the facility and grounds as soon as Liz was discovered missing. The Ashland Police Department was out in force at the facility this morning, searching the grounds and each apartment. Before noon a SAR dog was busy on the grounds and an adjoining grassy field. By about 1:00 pm Jackson County Sheriff Dept had set up a command post in a large parking lot just down the street.

Liz is able to walk very quickly, so it's possible she left the grounds and walked away on Main Street. Apparently she is very trusting, so there is some concern she might have accepted a ride.

A seldom-used railroad track borders the facility, but the access gate was locked and blackberries are thick on the other side of the fence, making the area inaccessible.

I am local and have spoken to staff and residents. I do not work there, but I know many of the staff and they are very conscientious.

There was a credible siting of Liz at around 12:00pm on Wednesday, May 27 on Eagle Mill Road in Ashland. No sitings since then.

Thank you for the details Lilibet & Gribear.

What a lovely looking lady! How well does she know Ashland, if she just moved there? I'm concerned that the recent move added to the dementia may make her confusion even worse

She knew Ashland well -- she has family there, but with the dementia her knowledge and familiarity with the place has deteriorated. I've attached a missing flyer created by the family.

I'm terrible at making maps, so I won't even try (calling SBHack!). There are two ways to get to Eagle Mill Road. The dog was searching the adjacent field that would take her to Glenn St. If she followed the streets through the development known as Quiet Village, she would reach Oak Street, which leads to Eagle Mill. It's quite rural and goes under the freeway.

The other way to get to Eagle Mill would involves walking "north" (actually more west) along N. Main (Hwy 99), (which doesn't have a sidewalk all the way on that side the road) to Valley View. This leads toward the entrances to I-5. I don't think she would go this way.

I wonder if Quiet Village is an area she had known well prior to her dementia.

Quoting myself and adding Google Earth photos. In both photos, you can see the field that was searched between 548 N Main and Glenn St. The maze of streets to the north is Quiet Village. Oak Street is not labeled in the photo, but it runs right into Eagle Mill. Once she reached Eagle Mill Road, Liz could have turned right or left. We don't know exactly where she may have been seen on Eagle Mill.

Thank you for the local info Lilibet, it helps a lot.

Thinking out loud here, and some of it is pretty obvious:

    - (if not already done) those possible routes need to be plastered with flyers

    - any houses along the more "rural" route might need to be canvassed door-to-door/flyers left

    - ask people to check garden sheds/outbuildings, she may have taken shelter

    - Liz's family & friends should think about places she knows/might remember locally & look there, put up flyers too

I'm pretty useless at maps too I'm looking at one on my computer right now, but would have no idea how to share it here (I'm going to pm another member who maps, because I *think* I saw on another thread that SBHack is rather busy at the moment).

Has there been any word on whether the dog picked up a scent?

No problem. If the Facebook post is accurate, she must have collapsed while she was out for a walk. She may have sat down in the shade under some vegetation and that's why it took awhile to find her......just a guess.
