CA - Elderly man charged in cleaver attack on wife, alameda, 2005
A 79-year-old man who suspected his younger wife was having an affair hacked at her with a meat cleaver Tuesday and nearly chopped off her right hand, police said.
The suspect was being held in an Alameda jail on suspicion of attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon. His name was not immediately released.
A 79-year-old Alameda man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after he allegedly attacked his wife with a meat cleaver this morning and nearly cut off her right hand.
The 54-year-old woman was in surgery this afternoon at Highland Hospital in Oakland and is expected to survive, said Alameda police Lt. Bob Cranford.

Why is it that when a custodial parent fails to provide for a child it is called neglect and is a criminal matter. But when a non custodial parent fails to provide it is called failure to support and is a civil matter?
