After France objected, Belgium was forced to destroy 180,000 newly-minted €2 coins celebrating the defeat of the French hero Napoleon at the Battle of Waterloo, 200 years ago.

Now Belgium has found a way around the objection, by using an exception that allows countries using the Euro currency to issue special coins of 'irregular' denominations. 70,000 €2.5 collectable Belgium coins went on sale Monday - priced at €6 a pop. French officials are yet to comment on the latest development.
