such an open-ended and vague "last seen" entry...at her own home...seen inside or outside? by family, friend, relative, neighbor? she ever seen leaving?
Completely agree. She was wearing a nightgown but carrying a purse? At home?

Ribley is her married name. She was Beverly Jean Holman, born April 24 1946 in Wichita, Kansas and married Jim Ribley 30 September 1969 in San Diego County, Ca. They separated in 1974 but were not divorced when she disappeared. All of this information comes from Ancestry which has the Holman family tree, including a photo of her, her husband and her father and stepmother after the wedding. Her mother died in 1960 and her father in 1993. The parents were actually adoptive parents as her real mother was the sister of her adoptive mother. The Ancestry tree also includes pics of 1975 newspaper clippings about the disappearance but they do not add anything. The tree states that her husband had her declared dead for legal reasons. Oddly the California Death Index ( https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:VPNN-VHR) gives her date of death as 22 April 1975 although she was only reported missing (by the parents) on 27 April.

I believe her husband was James Roger Ribley (the marriage record gives James R Ribley). Assuming this is the case he remarried in 1984 to Stephanie Ann Farley in Nevada. He was born 1946 in Ohio so much the same age as Beverly. He still seems to be in California with his second wife and there is little about him online.

The California death index on Ancestry has her dying 5 days before she went missing. I guess that's the day the husband gave when he declared her dead?

That is weird. Maybe there was some significance to that date or maybe there was a reason he didn't want her legal date of death to be on the day she was reported missing... Maybe a family member's birthday or something? I have no idea, that is only a wild guess on my part because I can't come up with any other reason why the date of death would be before she was even reported missing... Unless it was an error. Or unless she was reported missing after she was already dead and someone knows more than they are saying... Jmo

San Diego’s Unsolved Cold Cases
beverly-ribley-1.JPG

Sheriff's homicide unit is reopening a longstanding cold case, asking if anyone can help find a woman who has been missing more than 40 years. Beverly Jean Ribley was last seen at her home in the 2400 block of Trace Road in Spring Valley in April 1975, when she disappeared under mysterious circumstances, officials say. At the time, Ribley was 29 years old, 5-foot-1-inch and 100 pounds. She had long, brown hair and green eyes. If you have any information about her disappearance, call the homicide detail at 858-974-2321.

I thought that was odd too. Maybe they mean the last time anybody saw her she was wearing a nightgown, and then after she vanished the nightgown wasn't at home and neither was her purse. Nobody runs away in a nightgown carrying a purse. At least, not unless they're fleeing a domestic violence situation, I wouldn't think.

Would anyone know if drugs or prostitution may have been involved as a reason for the separation? No disrespect intended. I'm a part of a group that's looking into Anthony "Jack" Sully, ex-cop turned drug dealer/escort service provider/serial killer. He would have been no more than 15 miles away at the time and about to start his known killing spree.

I was searching for areas near San Francisco and accidentally searched for areas near San Diego. This may have not been the work of Sully, and I can't figure out how to remove my post. Please disregard it.

Details of Disappearance
Ribley was last seen at her home in the 2400 block of Trace Road in Spring Valley, California at 10:30 p.m. on April 27, 1975. She spoke to a friend on the phone that evening, and this is the last time anyone heard from her. When the police checked her home, her car was parked in the driveway and her cats were home alone. Only her nightgown and purse were missing. There were bloodstains on the carpet, indicating possible foul play.

At the time of her disappearance, Ribley worked as a beautician in the Mission Valley area of San Diego, California and as a concessions stand worker at the San Diego Stadium. She was separated from her husband and dating another man. Her boyfriend had reportedly broken into her house on a prior occasion; Ribley wasn't at home at the time.

It's uncharacteristic of Ribley to leave without warning. Her husband had her declared legally dead in 1987 so he could sell their house, which was in both their names. Her case remains unsolved.

I was interested to see if her boyfriend at the time, the one who previously broke into her home had anymore run in's with the law. He is named on another site. I did not find anything but his Facebook came up. It's old last posted in 2015, it contains a picture and 1 post saying he doesn't have a working computer. What caught my eye was he has only 5 friends. 2 of those being Beverly's Ex husband James and his present wife Stephanie.
