ME - Stephanie Ginn Gebo, 37, shot to death, Parkman, 5 June 2015

“The subject has made statements indicating he will not be returning to jail,” the state police said in a BOLO — be on the lookout — issued in the first days of the search.

Ginn Gebo, whose body was found in her home by her young children, had broken off the relationship with Burton a week prior to her death, according to state police Lt. Troy Gardner.

I couldn't find a thread for this case even though the search for the killer has been underway for 11 days. What a scum-bucket! He has terrorized other women in the past.

The public is being asked for help in locating Robert Burton, 38, who is Gebo’s former boyfriend and who lived with her until recently.

Burton is reportedly driving a black Toyota Tacoma pickup truck with Maine wildlife license plate 489-AKJ. Information about Burton can be reported to the state police in Bangor at 973-3700 or 911 from a cellphone.

With the weekend approaching, McCausland is urging people who may be headed to camps or to visit relatives in Piscataquis County to use caution.

    <snip>

Burton has an extensive criminal history of domestic violence, which includes convictions for kidnapping, assault with a dangerous weapon, assault, terrorizing, trafficking in prison contraband and tapering with a witness.

I hate that these kind of guys keep getting out of jail. Now another innocent woman is dead and her young children are without a mother.

Police believe Parkman murder suspect has been breaking into camps

This article is more than a week old, but LE doesn't seem to be any closer to catching Burton. Unless he's had help, he's probably still in the same general area.

Williams said he believes Burton has been able to elude capture for a month because “we’re in his backyard. He lived here and he ran in the same woods when he was on the run 10 years ago. He certainly has the advantage.”

The state police chief was referring to when Burton was on the run for 12 days in 2002 after threatening a woman with a rifle and knife before fleeing into the woods. He was found at an abandoned camp in Willimantic and later pleaded guilty in Piscataquis County Superior Court to four counts of burglary, criminal threatening, four counts of theft, possession of a firearm by a prohibited person and assault. He was sentenced in September 2003 to 10 years in prison.

Jury selection will begin Aug. 22 in Bangor in the murder trial of Robert Burton, the Abbot man accused of killing his former girlfriend in June 2015 and taking police on the longest manhunt in state history before turning himself in.

The trial was moved to Penobscot County from Piscataquis County because of pre-trial publicity, Jeffrey Toothaker, Burton’s attorney, said Monday.

Murder trial of Robert Burton, of Abbot, set for late September in Bangor

    http://www.centralmaine.com/2017/05/...ber-in-bangor/

Jury selection is scheduled for Sept. 21 in the murder trial of Robert Burton, of Abbot, charged with killing his former girlfriend in June 2015 and leading police on one of the longest manhunts in state history.

Burton’s murder trial is due to begin Sept. 25 at the Penobscot Judicial Center in Bangor.

If convicted of murder, Burton could face stiffer penalties than are currently in place. Legislation proposing that a person who commits murder in an act of domestic violence be given a harsher sentence than the law currently allows — in a bill sponsored by Sen. Troy Jackson, D-Allagash — received unanimous support Thursday in the state Senate, according to a release from the Maine Senate Democratic Office. The bipartisan bill now goes to the House of Representatives for an initial vote and possible final enactment.

Parkman murder: Accused called obsessed; defense counters girlfriend shot first

    http://www.centralmaine.com/2017/09/...er-girlfriend/

Robert Burton was a man jealous to the point of obsession when he murdered his former girlfriend in Parkman in June 2015.

That was the picture painted by Assistant Attorney General Donald Macomber Monday morning during opening statements in the first day of Burton’s murder trial at the Penobscot Judicial Center.

Burton’s defense attorney, Hunter Tzovarras, told jurors that his client was the one invited to Stephanie Gebo’s home just days after the couple broke up and he was ordered to leave, and it was Gebo who shot Burton first with her own handgun and a scuffle ensued and Gebo was shot to death.
Victim to co-worker: ‘If I come up missing, look for Robert Burton’

    https://bangordailynews.com/2017/09/...robert-burton/

Ginn Gebo, who was fatally shot in her bedroom on June 4, 2015, told co-workers that she had a gun and could protect herself, according to testimony on the first day of Burton’s murder trial at Penobscot Judicial Center.

“She said that if he came for her, she’d ‘get him first’ and ‘If I come up missing, look for Robert Burton,’” Shelley of Burnham said of the defendant, who led police on the longest manhunt in state history after his ex-girlfriend’s killing.

None of the witnesses testified that Ginn Gebo had said Burton ever hurt her or had been violent toward her prior to the breakup. All described her as outgoing, outdoorsy and familiar with guns.

Burton accused victim of multiple infidelities in papers found in backpack

    https://bangordailynews.com/2017/09/...d-in-backpack/

The man accused of killing his ex-girlfriend before leading police on the longest manhunt in state history left behind hand-written notes that accused his alleged victim of infidelities with dozens of men, police testified on Tuesday.

Papers found in the backpack Robert Burton left at the scene more than two years ago also contained questions about text messages, a dating website and Facebook postings, Maine State Police Detective Micah Perkins said.

Perkins read from the six pages of papers that contained Burton’s handwriting on the second day of the Abbot man’s murder trial at the Penobscot Judicial Center in Bangor.
At murder trial, friend testifies Burton thought girlfriend was cheating on him

    http://www.centralmaine.com/2017/09/...eating-on-him/

Robert Burton was “frustrated and aggravated” when he visited lifelong friend Miles in Abbot, two days before Stephanie Gebo died of gunshot wounds at her home in Parkman.

Miles offered that testimony Tuesday morning, on the second day of Burton’s trial, at the Penobscot Judicial Center on a charge of murder in connection with Gebo’s death. Miles said that Burton wanted to “slap” Gebo and called her a dirty name.

“He had a mean demeanor look on his face with dark eyes,” Miles testified. “He said that this weren’t over yet.”

    https://bangordailynews.com/2017/10/...shot-for-jury/

Robert Burton spoke little Tuesday when he took the stand in his own defense about how he survived in the woods, wounded, for 68 days. But at one point, he visited his childhood friend George Miles at his Abbot home, he said.

Miles gave him “beat up old tent and sleeping bag” and told Burton he could pick vegetables from his garden at night, Burton said. He camped out in the woods near Miles’ home and visited the family’s garden at night, he testified.

Miles last week denied having any contact with Burton, who is accused of killing his ex-girlfriend Stephanie Ginn Gebo, 37, in her Parkman home.
In a dramatic re-enactment Tuesday morning, Burton demonstrated for the jury how he claims his ex-girlfriend was shot using a plastic gun and a mattress and box springs in the well of the courtroom on the seventh day of his murder trial.

He claims to have shot her in self-defense after she shot him in the shoulder. The prosecution has said that Burton intentionally shot and killed Ginn Gebo because she ended the relationship.
