Cowley Co. inmate missing after dentist appointment
    Updated: Thu 3:36 PM, Jun 18, 2015

Cowley County authorities are searching for an inmate who has been missing since a morning dentist appointment.

Candise Cross, 19, was released on a court ordered furlough to go to a dentist appointment in Rose Hill. She was released to her mother for transportation at 8:53 a.m.

At 1:00 p.m. her mother returned to the jail without Cross. Her mother said she stopped to let Cross use the bathroom. When they tried to find her they realized Cross had left.

Cowley County is in south central KS, about 60 miles south of Wichita.

Wichita Eagle: ..Cowley County authorities seek 19-year-old inmate

The sheriff’s office said she was serving time for failing to appear in two Cowley County court cases – one for interfering with law enforcement and the other for misdemeanor battery.
This jail break doesn't seem quite as dramatic as the Dannemora NY one earlier this month.

It is the second one for Cowley this month. The other one just didn't come back from looking for a job.

Not meaning to lol too much (I'm a native Kansan) but is this go-ahead, guard-your-own-damn-self prison policy related to the Brownbackian budget shortfalls due to be experienced shortly?? Oh well -- just bump up that sales tax.
