NJ - Dawn Reddick, 29, Newark, August 2011
The 29-year-old third-grade teacher and gifted pianist thought she would be back for only a few days to visit her sister and the friends she left behind after following her parents down South. Instead, Reddick was fatally shot outside a Chinese restaurant on Maple Avenue, apparently an unintended victim of the gun violence that has surged throughout Newark this summer.
Authorities said Reddick was one of four people hit by gunfire at about 9 p.m. Friday.
"It appears she wasn't the intended target," said Chief Anthony Ambrose of the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office.
