    West Mesa Murders Q&A Thread

Post a question, receive a reply.

Here's how it works. You post a question, and another member quotes your question and posts a reply. When a sufficient reply is posted, your post is removed so as not to invite further responses, and to prevent repetition.

Keep responses brief and to the point. Don't forget to include a link, where appropriate.

    Example:

Q: When were the remains first discovered?

    A: Early February, 2009

"Bones from six bodies have been uncovered in the desert west of Albuquerque during the past two weeks, and police said Tuesday they were likely put there by one person."

thought I should share this post and the poster's comments--I posted on the LISK forum as well--voice sounds a little similar to the message left for that investigator out here about a "NINA"

This is a recording of a man who lived in Shirley NY. at the time of the long Island serial killings. This man beat me nearly to death and raped me. He sent me this message after I tried to report him. Is this the same vioce that called Amanda, Melissa Barthelemy's sister? If so I know the killers name.

Did any of the West Mesa victims have social media sites and, if so, were they “friends” with any of the other victims? Did they have friends in common, particularly male friends?

Does anyone remember a story about a missing woman found on tribal land about the same time as the WM victims, and do we know her name? It was a federal case, and not much was published about it. She was not linked to WM.

I have started this process and started with Cinnamon Elks. I have not found any for her yet.

Out of all the victims found on the Mesa, who had the most recent missing date? IOW, who do we think was the last to be killed?

The most recent missing date was Michelle Valdez. Her lka is 9/22/2004. However, we don't know when Syllania Edwards went missing or even arrived in Albuquerque. From the dateline special, apd has her alive in July 2014 in Denver.

    Hi Everyone,

We're hoping you can answer a question about Joseph Blea. We all know that the piece of evidence tying Blea to the burial site was a plant tag from a nursery where he was a regular customer.

What was the name of the nursery?

Thanks in advance for for your help,

    Rachel and Josh

It was a nursery in Vacaville California that supplied to retail outlets in Albuquerque. Havent found the actual nursery name yet.

Here is the link stating the plant came from Vacaville California; other sources just say it was purchased from an Albuquerque nursery. I swear I saw the actual name of the nursery somewhere, I will keep looking. Maybe I was mistaken.

TheSeeker, thanks so much for your help. We've never been able to find out the name of the nursery, which is why we're reaching out. It's frustrating when you think you've seen something and you can't find it again. It's like forgetting the name for something you use every day!

There are two wholesale nurseries, per Google, in Vacaville:

    Morningsun Herb Farm

    Palm Island Nursery Outlet

    This nursery:

http://www.lemurianursery.com/shrubs.htm is also located in Solano County and carries a variety of Juniper shrubs in 5 gallon containers.

The Spearmint Juniper is also called the "Spartan." This nursery sells it as such.

Few questions if you don't mind

From what i've read these victims worked the streets correct, none that we know we're working as escorts when they disappeared?

If so were they all working the same area before they disappeared?

Was a cause of death ever listed ?

    Were they bound ?

If so , with what ?

Was anything taken from the victims that LE is aware of ?

Id be interested in any maps that show where the victims were found as well as where they were working when they went missing, if that's available .

    @RK

They worked the streets from all accounts, mainly East Central Ave. a east west corridor that runs through Alb. south of I-40 roughly ten miles from the burial site. They were strangled and buried without clothes according to media.

    Here's the burial site, https://goo.gl/maps/t3wyHNE7Am82

Familiar with dump site, most likely lives or works (or lived or worked) near the area where the bodies are found

May be dealing with more than 1 killer

Will have a history of violence against women , most likely sexually violent

Known to frequent prostitutes, therefore prostitutes should be interviewed in the area these girls frequented, to see if any of them had been assaulted before.

His vehicle will most likely be well maintained , but the mileage will reflect his constant forays out to pick up women (high mileage)

*Investigative consideration: In some areas there are what are called "bad date" Sheets (Project SAFE etc..)which are lists where sex workers voluntarily submit reports of bad encounters they have with Johns, give personal and vehicle descriptions, as well as where and what happened and what the "date" entailed, and what the John stated verbally before and during.

Look for any reports of John's who assaulted victims primarily any who attempted to strangle women, and any repeatedly matching descriptions of such individuals.

This offender is extremely comfortable in the area the bodies were found, it takes time to dig a grave and bury an adult, yet to do it multiple times in the same area, on what appears to be just on the outskirts of town

    Victimology:

Victims are all prostitutes, which severely elevates their risk of encounter, due primarily to lifestyle , which is highest amongst prostitutes who are working the streets, slightly lower amongst "Call girls" and Escorts

To the offender they are extremely low risk , which tells us a few things about our offender

Low level of sophistication, chooses "easy" victims, MO may be nothing more than agreeing to a date or flashing money.

May produce a weapon initially to force victim compliance , this may include driving the victims to where their bodies were found , then assaulting and killing the victims there where he has an established level of comfort . Most if not all victims were strangled, which also gives some insight into the offender personality, hes "hands on"

At the outset of his crimes there was most likely a triggering event that started everything off (legal, money intimate etc.)

Assaults(murders) most likely take place in or near the suspects vehicle once he has a victim, therefore he may have taken precautions , IE disabled door locks and or windows , however a secondary crime scene (residence etc..) cant be ruled out , but I feel its unlikely

Motive: Could be a number of motivational factors , primarily anger

Why did he stop (or did he ?) , could be one of many things
    -Dead
    -In prison
    -Physically or mentally incapable
    -Operating in another area
-Its also possible (though rare) he no longer had the urge to continue, as sometimes they do stop.

One more thing , hes most likely known to LE already

Great detail RichKelly! Thanks. You bring up a lot of valid points and many we've looked into. We just got back from our 4th stint in ABQ and have spoken to many involved. Can't wait for the show to come together and have websleuthers see it. Still uncovering interesting facts on the case.

    Best,
    Rachel & Josh
