Hundreds of Arizona inmates to be moved following prison fight

8230153_G.jpg

This prison has one of the worst track records in the State, privately run. More than half the time, the electric fences aren't working, cameras are off, the guards are sub-par, and max prisoners are reclassified in with medium prisoners. Medical is bad.

I hope decriminalization of marijuana reduces the prison population extensively and these private prisons get shut down. Prisons shouldn't be "for profit".

Stay safe everyone! We're not going out tonight... will be watching the "Boston Pops" on TV! Boy, the grocery store sure was crowded yesterday, and the freeway going to Lake Tahoe and Reno sure was packed!!!

daisymae - YES! I watched Serena "almost" lose... didn't think she could come back, guess I was wrong!

I have Kate Smith's "God Bless America" on my CD in my car. I usually sing along with her - love the song!!

I see that there will be maintenance on the site this weekend - so in case I get "locked" out - hope everyone has a nice, safe 4th!!

Wild Horse Race gets each rodeo performance off to a rowdy start

A wild horse team tries to get their horse under control so they can saddle it Wednesday night during the third performance of the Prescott Frontier Days World's Oldest Rodeo at the Prescott Rodeo Grounds.

Domicell, who has been helping with the Wild Horse Races for about 20 years, explained that all teams consist of a mugger, a shank man, and a rider. Each has a specific job.

"Once they have the horse stopped, then the rider attempts to put the saddle on and then get on the horse," Domicell said. "Once the rider's on, the shank man has to take the shank rope off. Then the rider tries to get the horse, which is bucking and kind of uncontrollable, across the finish line."

Domicell and Prescott Frontier Days Vice Chairman Joe Butner say the race has been a part of the Prescott rodeo for more than a century - starting as early as 1913,

"It's one of the oldest events in the rodeo," Butner said.

Added Domicell: "It actually came from cowboys trying to break horses."

Butner describes the horses in the race as "unbroken, wild horses" that are provided by the stock contractor. "They're not used to being handled."

Happy 4th everyone! I don't drop by the Sidebar near as often as I should but wanted to wish everybody a festive and safe Independence Day.

I didn't see that and I was totally lost today. It really screwed up my morning routine, and the timing couldn't have been worse for me since losing my beloved Macky :anguish:
I haven't really been able to sleep or eat since I got her "probable diagnoses" on the 23rd of June. I had already taken her to the Vet on June 19th, when she had just a little "cough" only whenever she got excited...i.e., my daughter's pulling up in the drive, coming in etc.. and after she greeted them (or anybody) she wouldn't cough anymore. She was put on an antibiotic and given cough pills that day. I can't yet finish what happened by the 23rd, as I am still too devastated to even say it out loud.

I really can't afford to lose any weight as I am now starting to look anorexic.
I'm going to try and get some sleep now, But THANK GOODNESS the forum is back.

Fourth of July FUN QUIZ
Don't cheat :) Answers bottom page

The Fourth of July, or Independence Day, celebrates the anniversary of the adoption of the Declaration of Independence in 1776. It's a national holiday, celebrated with everything from flag raising ceremonies to backyard barbecues and fireworks. To celebrate our nation's birthday, here are a few fun facts you may not have known about the 4th of July and American history.

1. What animal did Benjamin Franklin supposedly prefer as the official national bird over the bald eagle?

2. How many hot dogs are consumed, on average, at barbecues on the Fourth?

3. What year was the 4th of July first celebrated at the White House?

4.Why were the stars on the original American flag arranged in a circle?

5. When was the 4th of July declared a national holiday?

ANSWERS

1. Benjamin Franklin is said to have wanted the wild turkey to be the national bird but was outvoted by both John Adams and Thomas Jefferson, who chose the bald eagle, a bird of prey native only to North America, as the official bird of the United States of America.

2. The 4th of July and barbecues go hand-in-hand, so it's probably no surprise that over an estimated 150 million hot dogs are consumed in the United States each Independence Day. Break that down, and that's roughly one hot dog for every two people in the U.S.

3.The first recorded 4th of July celebrations were in 1777 on the one-year anniversary of the adoption of the Declaration of Independence. The first 4th of July party held at the White House, however, wasn't until 1801, when it was held by President Thomas Jefferson.

4. The 13 stars on the American flag were arranged in a circle to represent equality between the original thirteen colonies. Although there were several versions of the early flag, including one with the stars arranged in vertical lines, the "Betsy Ross flag," which depicts the stars in a circle, was the most popular.

5. Although the anniversary of the Declaration of Independence has been celebrated since 1777, the 4th of July was not declared a national holiday until 1941. The 4th of July wasn't referred to as Independence Day until 1791.

Oh my sweet Dmacky, why does life have to be so difficult sometimes? I think it is because we love and care so much that it hurts to lose what gives love back. I am so sorry.
