Poor residents who set up a camp near a landfill in Skandaalkamp, Cape Town had a creche, a church, a shop and a taxi service. But when authorities decided they had to be moved further away from the city and the camp demolished, they were given only one chance to transport all their possessions to the new settlement for free.

With no room for pets, nearly every family's distressed dogs and cats were left behind in the wreckage of the dismantled shacks.

I'm sorry but there is no way I would leave my pet behind. They were able to take things with them but things were more important than their pets. And now the cats have disappeared, frightened out of their minds & likely starving to death and one dog has died. Inexcusable IMO. I'm glad that some good people have been able to capture some of the dogs & the one kid has it right - he rode IN the cage with his dog because he refused to be separated from him again. He could teach the adults a lesson.
