In a bribery and corruption case that goes all the way back to 2006, former Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi has been found guilty of bribing a senator to help topple the then-government. The sum involved was over $3 million. He has been sentenced to three years in jail.

However, he won't serve a day because by the time the mandatory appeals process is completed, the statute of limitations will have expired. Sentences are not served in Italy until all appeals are finished.

Berlusconi has also been banned from holding any public office for five years.
