GUILTY FL - Kantral Brooks & Esther Deneus, both 29, murdered, Bradenton, 9 July 2015

wow, it looks from the surveillance pics that one guy is wearing a towel or something wrapped around him. I'm sure it is just the sepia tones or something, but creepy and sad. 4-5 gunman? Why so many? There is a lot more to this one IMO.

WTH!!?? These pictures, the way these guys are dressed, what on earth!? All I can think of is illegal trade, drugs, guns, whatever.

“It wasn’t random,” Detective Lieutenant James Rackey of the Bradenton Police Department told The Daily Beast. “We believe the gentleman was targeted and the female just happened to be there at the time.”

According to Narins, Deneus was a medical worker in a nursing home and Brooks worked in landscaping.

Brooks was a registered felon in Manatee County and had been arrested 11 times since 2005 on
charges ranging from marijuana, meth, and cocaine possession and distribution, to failure to stop for police and fleeing to elude, as well as robbery by sudden snatching. His most recent drug charge was in 2009.

Police said at least one victim was shot in the head.

Police said that there are "calls for service" to this home in the past, but none were about violence or related to drugs.

Don't know if the Esther Deneus referred to at the link below is the same woman, but a person with this same name recently testified in the court case of her former boyfriend's murder. Wonder if this is a revenge killing. Add that angle and the fact her boyfriend is a convicted felon, there's a whole lot of possibilities.

Poor kids who have to live in these environments....

Those poor babies. I hope somebody in their families lives a clean and wholesome life and these kids get a chance.

Judge rules death penalty still applies in two Bradenton murder cases

A judge has ruled the death penalty remains a potential sentence for two accused murderers in separate high profile cases in Bradenton.

Circuit Court Judge Diana Moreland ruled that the death penalty was never completely invalidated by a recent Supreme Court decision. The judge said the previous capital sentencing statute still served as a deterrent, warning Devin Chandler and Terez Jones of the punishment they could face if they committed first-degree murder.

Moreland issued similar orders in both cases, denying the defense motions to strike the state's intent to seek the death penalty and to find the death penalty is no longer a potential sentence.

On Friday morning — less than a week after the one-year anniversary of the murders — all three men appeared in court before Circuit Judge Diana Moreland for a case-management hearing.

Byron Hileman Jr. of the Office of Regional Counsel, and his unnamed co-chair were granted requests to withdraw as McNear’s attorney after citing ethical conflicts.

Boy recalls for jury how his mother pleaded for her life before she was shot dead
A 13-year-old boy recalled for a jury how he tried to hide under the covers while his stepfather and mother were shot dead.

“Don’t kill me in front of my children,” the boy recalled his mother, Ester Deneus, saying.

The boy, who was 11 years old on July 9, 2015, was asleep on the couch with his four siblings when a brick crashed through the glass of his front door. Three black men, he said, armed with pistols then came inside.

Prosecutors won’t seek death penalty for couple’s killer

Trey Nonnombre, 20, was found guilty on Thursday of two counts of first-degree murder and armed home invasion.

Assistant State Attorney Art Brown said Monday the state no longer would be seeking the death penalty, based on the jury’s findings on the verdict form regarding whether Nonnombre had carried and discharged a firearm.

Death penalty no longer being sought against final suspect facing charges in double murder

“Based on the jury’s responses to some of the questions concerning Mr. Nonnombre’s case, it is clear that they had some uncertainty as to his direct responsibility for the deaths of Kantral Brooks and Ester Deneus, which was fundamental to the state’s pursuit of the death penalty against him as the most culpable of the three co-defendants charged in the case,” Assistant State Attorney Art Brown said in a statement to the Herald echoing his words in court.

“Accordingly, the state decided to no longer pursue the death penalty against Mr. Nonnombre, secure in the knowledge that he could no longer harm our citizens,” Brown said. “Given that determination, the state can no longer seek the death penalty against Jimmie McNear based on case law that states that a less culpable defendant may not receive the death penalty when a more culpable co-defendant receives a life sentence.”

The trial for Jimmie McNear is scheduled to begin on November 1st.
