Gunmen have stormed a Primark store in a mall in Villeneuve la Garenne in a Paris suburb. !0 people, possibly all employees, are inside.

I believe the attack happened at 6.30am Paris time. So the store would not have been open to customers.

Police said it looked like a robbery at first but for 'unknown reasons' the gunmen stayed and took hostages.

There are some reports there are 18 people inside but police have only confirmed 10. An employee sent a text 3 and half hours ago, saying he/she was being held hostage. There seems to be hardly any info about this situation getting out, unless I'm just not finding it. French press agencies seem to have moved on to newws about Greece finances. Amazing.

18 people evacuated from the shopping center so I'm guessing they are the hostages. I hope so. Maybe this is just a botched robbery?

Local media sources have suggested one gunman was recognized as an employee of the store and this was an 'inside job'.

Maybe the store has a cash delivery early in the morning? That might explain the strange timing.

This is a developing story!

3 gunmen have taken 10 employees of a Trimark store in Paris hostage.

Early reporting is describing this as a "robbery situation" however given the problem with extremists in France it would not surprise me if this turns out to be something else. Hopefully this isn't another Charlie Hebdo.

Up to three gunmen entered the Primark store in Villeneuve-la-Garenne, northwest of the French capital, at 6.30am local time, sources said.
According to Le Figaro, quoting a police source, a Primark employee sent a text message to a friend at 7am saying he was being held hostage by two armed men.
Special police units are surrounding the clothes store, police said. Shutters at other stores in the precinct remained closed.
Le Parisien newspaper said that up to 18 hostages were being held.

As far as I can make out, gunmen took maybe 10, maybe 18 store workers hostage, then the workers managed to escape to a canteen. When special forces turned up, they got the people out but the gunmen had gone.

It seems like the urgent situation with the hostages is over and no-one has been hurt.
