An active shooter was reported at a military facility in Chattanooga, the city's mayor and the U.S. Navy said Thursday.

Chattanooga Mayor Andy Berke said at a news conference that it was a horrific situation. He did not release any other details. Berke said there's "an officer down" at a military reserve center.

"It's a very terrible situation," he said.

A police officer is dead, a suspect is dead and a local hospital is reporting 'multiple' victims after a gunman opened fire at Chattanooga Naval base in Tennessee.

Area, base and hospital is on lockdown.

Gale Mule, a witness, tells CNN that a shooter in a silver Mustang drove up to the military recruitment center on Amnicola Highway in Chattanooga and began "firing into the building."

My local news just reported that it is no longer an active shooter situation but they can't confirm it at this time. About 10 min up the road from me.

It took place on Amnicola HWY which runs straight through downtown and by Chattanooga State Community College. Apparently the whole thing was shut down. Also Bradley Square Mall (Cleveland about 20 min. away) was on lockdown as well.

ETA: One of the locations was Amnicola, the second was Lee HWY which is easily accessible via Hwy 153. Local news was not being clear at first.

Yeah there is still a lockdown at Erlanger, Amnicola HWY, and Chattanooga State. Our mayor is suppose to give a press conference soon.
