IL - Gary ‘MJ’ Grodin - Accused child sexual predator on the loose *captured*

According to Swansea Police Chief Steve Johnson, authorities were notified about a possible sexual assault of a minor at a home in town. The suspect’s friend, who lived in another state, contacted the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Department after being told about the crimes.

Police went to the residence to secure the child and her siblings. The suspect, identified as 32-year-old Gary ‘MJ’ Grodin, was not at the residence. Police seized a cell phone for evidence, which allegedly contained video of the Grodin using zip ties to bind the child’s hands while forcing himself on her sexually.

The girl’s mother is distraught and it isn’t believed that she was aware of these alleged attacks according to police. Grodin has been charged on several counts, including predatory criminal sexual assault.

TULSA, Ok. – A man accused of sexually assaulting a 10-year-old girl in Swansea, Illinois, has been taken into custody in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Gary "MJ" Grodin, also known as Mikel Grodin, was arrested by the United States Marshals Service Thursday afternoon. A woman traveling with Grodin was also taken into custody for non-related warrants.

"This alleged sexual predator was taken into custody due to the close working relationship between the Swansea Police Department and the United States Marshals Service, Southern District of Illinois," Swansea Police Chief Steve Johnson said. "We offer special Thanks to U.S. Marshal Don Slazinik and his dedicated group of Marshals."

Grodin, 32, is facing a 31-count felony warrant with a $1 million bond. Swansea Detectives are working closely with the U.S. Marshals Service and Oklahoma authorities; extrication procedures to return Grodin to Illinois are underway.
