"A couple of hikers were walking a long a trail and they found a shoe...they picked it up and took it home with them. When they got home they looked inside and saw bones," Hansen said.

Hansen says search and rescue teams have found some additional bones as they combed the steep, rocky spot near Alta ski resort, but haven't found a skull or anything to identify the person yet.

The boot was a low-cut type typically worn by a man. It was found about 5 miles up the canyon..

He said the bones have been there for at least a year.

Crews went to the scene and found additional human bones in the area.

Officials said it looks like a person might have fallen, ended up under rocks in the area and then snow covered the area over time.

Are there any missing hikers in the area?

“They feel pretty sure that this is Corry,” Ehlers said. “They found his Costco card with his picture on it, and then they found his American Express card.”

According to Unified Police, two hikers discovered a skeletal foot inside an old boot they picked up off a trail by Alta on Tuesday. When authorities arrived at the area, near Hell Gate, they found several more bones.

I'm glad his family and friends (including a friend of mine) finally know what happened. Rest in peace, Corey, I'm sure you'd rather be in your mountains than just about anywhere else.

(I didn't know Corey personally; he's a friend of a friend.)

My goodness, the official ID took almost a year! At least Corey's ID was nearby so his family and friends were pretty sure he'd been found. How sad for them.
