Ann Arbor — Police are calling the death of a 21-year-old University of Michigan student a “tragic accident” after the victim fell through the glass roof of the Nickels Arcade early Friday morning.

I can't even imagine how awful that must have been!

I am wondering if alcohol was involved. This guy and his "female acquaintance" actually were WALKING on the glass roof panels that cover a three story high "arcade" area. Yikes. The building was built in 1918 - so the glass panels may have been manufactured in 1918.

Here is some history of Nickels Arcade:
John Nickels willed his property to his children. One son, Tom E. Nickels, wanted Ann Arbor to grow, and he developed a vision of a glass-roofed arcade of shops selling specialty and luxury goods. He bought his siblings’ lots, razed the old meat market, and hired the architect Hermann Pipp to design a glass-covered shopping arcade in a style popular in Italy and France. Construction of the steel-and-brick structure began in 1915, with Farmers and Mechanics Bank slated to be the first tenant.
