"Athlete 'shaken' by accusation: Brazilian report

The Brazilian men's water polo team won silver at the Pan Am Games on July 15, one day before the assault allegedly took place. Police said they only identified a suspect after the team had left Toronto.

Bezerra is still with his team in Kazan, Russia for the 2014 FINA World Championships, according to a Brazilian media outlet.

Bezarra said he is innocent and his interaction with the woman was consensual, when asked about the case by GloboEsporte.com, a Rio de Janeiro media outlet,

Members of the water polo team said Bezerra was "shaken" by the allegation.

Marcus Vinicius Freire, head of performance for the Brazilian team, said the delegation had contacted a lawyer and was working with the Brazilian consulate in Toronto."

"Beaven-Desjardins said sex assaults are always a concern during large events but that a spike hasn’t been reported during the Games.

Roughly 10,000 athletes and officials from 41 countries have travelled to Toronto for the Games, which began on July 10 and wrap up Sunday. It’s the largest international multi-sport event ever held in Canada, surpassing even the 2010 Vancouver Olympics."

"Police issue warrants for two Brazilian Pan Am Games soccer players after sexual assault"

" The two men have been identified as Lucas Domingues Piazon, 21, and Andrey Da Silva Ventura, 22. Both are wanted for sexual assault, Domingues Piazon on an Ontario-wide warrant, and Da Silva Ventura on a Canada-wide warrant.

Domingues Piazon plays professional soccer for English Championship team Reading as a forward on a year-long loan from Chelsea, while Ventura plays professionally as a goalkeeper for Botafogo in Brazil.

She continued to say that because the warrant for Domingues Piazon is Ontario-wide and not national, they will not seek his extradition to Canada.

“We will be working with all law enforcement officials across the world, so that when he does travel, especially being part of a national team, we’ll be notified of his movements,” Beaven-Desjardins said.

Beaven-Desjardins said police are working with the Brazilian consulate to convince both men to come to Toronto to respond to the charges."

"This is the second sex crime-related investigation involving Brazilian Pan Am athletes. In July, police issued an arrest warranted for the substitute goalkeeper of the silver-medal Brazilian water polo team. Thye Mattos Ventura Bezerra, 27, is wanted on a warrant in connection with a sexual assault of a 22-year-old woman in her bedroom. Bezerra had already left the country when the warrant was issued."

TORONTO -- Prosecutors have dropped a sexual assault charge against a soccer player who competed for the Brazilian team in last summer's Pan Am Games in Toronto, but his lawyer says the athlete's reputation has already taken a significant hit.

The charge against Lucas Domingues Piazon, 21, was dismissed Tuesday morning because there was no reasonable prospect of conviction, defence lawyer Brian Greenspan said.
