Paris police open fire on car at Tour de France finale

Police in La Place de la Concorde, Paris, have opened fire at a car that tried to ram through barricades erected for the arrival of the Tour de France cycling competitors, Sunday. The male suspect and passenger drove off and have not been located.

Despite the US embassy in Paris appearing to go on alert, police later classed it as a minor incident, saying it was simply a driver who refused to comply after an accident and was trying to flee police. It's not certain if the suspect was wounded.

Update to this story is that a 16-year-old has handed himself in, along with another person and a young woman who was also a passenger in the car is being treated for gunshot wounds to the chest. She is not critical.

It seems fairly certain these were just young, reckless people, not terrorists.

Thank goodness. My first thought was another Islamist attack ala Charlie Hebdo.
