NY - Man runs into estranged wife, stabs her on street, Hempstead, 2005
An Elmont man who ran into his estranged wife on the street in Hempstead yesterday and attacked her with a kitchen knife was charged with attempted murder, police said.
Dick Morales, 41, who lives at Belmont racetrack, saw his wife, who was not identified by police, in front of a 99 cent store on Hempstead Turnpike at about 1:40 p.m. "He was getting off the bus and saw her across the street," said Nassau Fifth Precinct Sgt. Jeanne Gans. "It was happenstance."
Morales approached his wife, who had obtained an order of protection against him, and she told him to go away, police said. As she entered the store, Morales pulled out a large kitchen knife and stabbed her in the neck, over her eye, the temple, mid-chest and abdomen.

Why is it that when a custodial parent fails to provide for a child it is called neglect and is a criminal matter. But when a non custodial parent fails to provide it is called failure to support and is a civil matter?

Another restraining order/order of protection that did absolutely nothing. All they are is a paper trail.
I hope that she is ok.

If he killed her, why would he only be charged with attempted murder? I had no luck finding anything more on this. Anyone know the outcome of this?

TY for the article excerpt, mysteriew. When I clicked on the link, I couldn't find the article, so I appreciate that you copied/pasted a portion of it.
I'm stunned. Happenstance?! If so, then why was he carrying a "large kitchen knife"?!
It may have been "*happenstance* that he saw her in front of the 99 cent store, but IMO he was looking for her.
ETA: Oh - I see that this occurred in 2005. No wonder I couldn't find the article @ the link. I've been looking for updates, but so far haven't found any newer articles.
TallCoolOne - I'm confused, as well, and have the same question as you. If he killed her, then why was he charged with attempted murder?
