Search continues in Gary for missing woman, 2-year-old
The search for a missing mentally challenged Gary woman and her 2-year-old nephew continued Wednesday with help from the Porter County sheriff and volunteers who walked through overgrown vacant lots and abandoned buildings in Gary's Brunswick neighborhood.

Diamond Bynum, 21, and King Walker disappeared from their family home in the 500 block of Matthews Street late Saturday morning.

My Goodness, they've been missing for a week now! Where do they sleep? Have homeless shelters been contacted? How warm/cold is it in Gary right now? King is only wearing shorts and a T Shirt.

As far as I understand the report on the fb page listed above they were at restaurants getting hand outs, last seen 6 days ago.

I hope they are alright!

How scary. I wonder if the homeless shelters have been searched. Or homeless tents. I hope they are both found and that they are together.

So I guess this means they are missing but they can't be bothered. Something fishy with this story.

ugh!!!! Where can they possibly be... Diamond, I think, would of asked someone for help. There should be way more info out and all over the news. I apologize if there has been but this is the first I have heard about these two missing. Have any private held by the community search parties taken place? This is unbelievable.

"Weber said only three volunteers joined in the search."

Basically they have had no man power. Where is the community?

They are still searching.

"Her father, Eugene Bynum Jr., said he was told police were turning their focus to area sex offenders as the investigation continues.

It wasn't until recently that Bynum discovered how many sex offenders live around his home in the Brunswick neighborhood. The family moved to Gary from Hammond in February to save up money to buy a home.

According to the Lake County Sheriff's Department website, there are 21 registered offenders living within a mile of the Bynum home."

Wow that is a lot of sex offenders. Always a reminder I need to check my area again. I am still thinking of Diamond and King, I just love their names. I am glad they are expanding the search and it looks like they will be getting more help.

The latest update on Diamond & King

I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around Diamond who reportedly has the mental capacity of child out strolling around with a toddler for 2 weeks.

Even if she's begging for food, people are giving her money and she's finding temporary shelter to rest, after 2 weeks of toting a toddler, because there is no way that 2 year old can withstand that much walking, she has to be (mentally and physically) exhausted.

If it's all random strangers helping her you would think at least 1 by now would have had the alarms go off, called LE and found a way to detain her long enough (such as let me buy you a sit down meal) for them to arrive.

I don't know what to think about this case.

I'm stuck between somebody is intentionally keeping Diamond and King hidden for whatever reason or something has happened to both of them.

:(

Things just don't add up for me. Diamond "may have been spotted" at a bus stop "somewhere" in Hammond and "someone" at that bus stop "may have" given her $50 for food. $50 is a lot of money for some random stranger to hand out like that. It took a week before this new development hit the newspapers. If Diamond feels the need to constantly consume food, why hasn't she been seen out looking for food, begging for food?

There are 8,000 +/- abandoned houses in Gary. Even if they were seeking shelter in one of these houses, they would be out looking for food at some point. I don't have a good feeling about this one.

"There's a lot of abandoned houses," said Ariana Walker, the missing boy's mother. "I did 15 (Friday) and it's just all me. We really need help."

I can't even post what I want to post. But really, nobody in IN wants to help this family set up a search party. I wonder if the family even knows who they can contact for help.. I wished I lived closer to them. Doesn't anyone else see an issue?
