Eugene Pierce was a freshman at North Carolina A&T State University and he worked as a clerk at the Circle K convenience store. He was almost done with his semester and was planning to head back to New Jersey for winter break. While on his shift, he was the victim of a deadly robbery. The other individual in the store survived and gave detectives information. Almost 26 years later, the case remains unsolved but newly discovered DNA evidence could identify the person responsible.

New Evidence in 1989 Cold Case

Recently – a development in the case. Detectives found a sealed piece of DNA evidence. Methodist University professor of Applied Forensic Science, Dave Pauly, says if the evidence wasn’t contaminated prior to collection...it could be very useful.

Of course, it will take a few months for results to come back. In the meantime...detectives hope they will soon have an answer as to who did it.

“We’re gonna keep pursuing every lead until we get a resolution on this case,” said Matthews, his eyes wide and voice determined. “We’re not gonna stop.”
