GUILTY LA - Officer Thomas LaValley, 29, fatally shot, Shreveport, 5 Aug 2015 *Arrest*

Sadly when I see these cop killings in the news I don't know if they are new or not and have to look :(

Shreveport Police Cpt. Marcus Hines said in a press conference late Wednesday that the officer was shot while responding to a report of a suspicious person inside a home. Hines says an armed man was apparently inside the residence, threatening to harm people...

Katy, I promise I did a forum search before starting this thread. And you had already posted apparently. I don't know what changed concerning the search button. It used to be perfect, but now it just sits there, does nothing. :(

Thanks. just knew some of you sharpies would have this posted!

Someone who should not be on the street and most likely is prohibited (BY LAW) from having a gun OR be running around scaring or hurting ANYONE and another fallen officer trying to do his job, so very sad.

BREAKING: Grover D. Cannon in custody after daylong manhunt

SHREVEPORT, La. (KTBS) -
Shreveport police have arrested Grover D. Cannon at a home on Jackson Street in Shreveport.

Cannon, 27, faces a first-degree murder charge in the fatal shooting of Shreveport police Officer Thomas LaValley, 29.

LaValley, 29, was dispatched to a house in the 3500 block of Del Rio shortly before 9:15 p.m. Wednesday to a suspicious-person call. Police said a woman reported that a man was in her neighbor's house and threatening the people there. The caller also said the man might have a gun and was a fugitive, police said.

LaValley, wearing a patrolman's uniform, went inside. An audio recording, described as gut-wrenching, tells of LaValley confronting the man, ordering him to show his hands and the man opening fire.

Sadly, some still wonder why police officers go into a situation with guns drawn.

I'm glad they have the suspect in custody and off the street.

Grover D. Cannon was a fugitive wanted for attempted murder in connection with a shooting in Queensborough last month.

"It's like a brotherhood. We're strong we're close together," said Shreveport Police Chaplain Calvin Kimble of the service.

Lavalley's death in the line of duty is mourned by that brotherhood well beyond the ArkLaTex.

"When an officer has given his life like this law enforcement across the country grieves," said Kimble.

Legislation naming a Bossier Parish bridge in honor of slain Shreveport police Officer Thomas Joseph LaValley now is state law.

ACT 22, which Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards signed May 10, designates the state Highway 154 bridge over the south end of Lake Bistineau as the Officer Thomas LaValley Memorial Bridge...

The 28-year-old Shreveport man accused of killing LaValley tentatively is set to go on trial Feb.6 on 1 count each of first-degree murder, battery of a police officer and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

The man accused of killing a Shreveport police officer exactly one year ago will have his mental capacity to stand trial evaluated.

According to court records, a motion to appoint a sanity commission was submitted on July 18.

The motion requests appointment of the sanity commission based on the idea that "Mr. Cannon currently lacks the mental capacity required by law to proceed in this matter." It further reads that "this motion does not pertain to the determination of Mr. Cannon's sanity at the time of the offense."

Judge Ramona Emanuel signed an order accompanying the motion, which appoints two doctors to conduct a mental examination of Cannon regarding his mental capacity to proceed and to report their findings in association with the law.

The man accused of killing Shreveport Police Officer, Thomas LaValley, in August of 2015 returned to a Caddo Parish Courtroom Wednesday morning.

A sanity hearing for Grover Cannon was expected to take place, but one of the doctor's appointed to the sanity commission said Cannon did not cooperate with the evaluation. Judge Ramona Emmanuel admonished Cannon to comply with the evaluation.

The hearing is now set for October 17th at 11 a.m.

Accused cop killer trial delayed. Again.
The accused killer of a Shreveport police officer will have to wait another three months for his day in court…just two weeks short of the third anniversary of the crime.

Today, Caddo Parish District Judge Ramona Emanuel approved a defense motion to move the date for the kickoff of the first-degree murder trial of Grover Cannon from next month to July.
Cannon is charged in the shooting death of SPD Officer Thomas LaValley.
