Very awful story. It will be interesting to hear the reasons for the confinement as well as how long each child was locked in the makeshift cages.

Thursday morning at 11:00, Murray County deputies responded to a 911 call reporting a child had been left alone. The deputy was met at the door by a girl and an adult female. Since the deputy saw there was adult supervision, he left. Later that day, the same personal called 911 again asking for help again. This time, the deputy went inside and found an 11-year-old boy with special needs in a makeshift cage. Another child, an 8-year-old girl, was also found at the home.

Why do people think children do not have human rights?!!! How, oh how, can any mother treat her child/children like this?
 
I believe in the initial story I linked, Stephanie Stone was also charged with drug possession. I still have not seen how Wanda Redfern is related, but she was arrested. Perhaps she is Ms. Stone's mother or aunt.
 
GBI Special Agent Greg Ramey said the boy could not have gotten out of the cage by himself, he describes the cage as, "twin bunk beds that were of metal construction and there was bars that he could not get out of. And they used zip ties and other pieces of metal to insure that these two pieces of beds stayed together, but there were toys and debris and clothing in there."

The makeshift cage was two feet by two feet while the boy was over 4 feet tall.

"There was no place for him to lay comfortably," Ramey said.

The only good thing I see here is that the 11 year old was not drastically small.
So this isn't likely to be as "severe" as "Sunny" who was totally growth stunted from being starved.

Since the officer saw the girl earlier and didn't think she looked beaten to a pulp or starved...
Since the boy was of a fairly normal height... and apparently capable of moving around to lay down..

I am hopeful that maybe these kids were not caged long term.
Hopefully they will have a slightly easier recovery and a better prognosis.
 
The child's mother, Stephanie Stone and Wanda Sue Redfern have been charged with false imprisonment and cruelty to children. Stone was also charged with possession of methamphetamine.
Law enforcement confirms that the Division of Family and Children Services "had been involved with this family".

A second cage was found inside the home. Authorities believe the girl was kept in that cage.

August 2015 - third arrest made.

Gloria Jane Brown, 64, was arrested Tuesday at the Murray County Sheriff’s Office...

GBI spokesman Greg Ramey said Brown is a relative of Stone’s who had been asked to watch the children...

Authorities said Redfern, who is reported to be marrying into Stone’s family, was at the home during the second visit.
Ramey said both children likely had been confined off and on for an extended period of time.
