At the end of WW2, German troops fleeing Soviet forces advancing from the east packed up as many valuables as they could find to take with them. In the then German city of Breslau (now Wroclaw in Poland) a train full of valuables is reputed to have mysteriously disappeared - some say in a tunnel near Książ castle in the Wałbrzych district, some say in a military bunker complex called Riese.

Now a treasure-hunting Pole and a German say they've found the train and are asking for a 10 per cent share of what it contains. A lawyer representing the men, Jaroslaw Chmielewski, said: "this is a discovery of global importance, comparable to that of the Titanic."

Lawyers, the army, the police and the fire brigade are dealing with this," Marika Tokarska, an official with the Walbrzych district council, told Reuters. "The area has never been excavated before and we don't know what we might find."

It remains to be seen exactly where the train was found, what the treasure is, or if the goods it contains were stolen and original owners or their relatives will try to reclaim them.
