Anchorage police ask for help finding missing 22-year-old woman
"Anchorage police have asked for the public's help finding a 22-year-old woman whose empty car was found Friday morning at Kincaid Park.

Police said Nancy Sourivong was last seen around 5:30 p.m. Thursday, when she left Dimond Estates Mobile Home Park in South Anchorage. She wore glasses, blue jeans and a black and white tunic-style top, police said in a news release."

Before you criticize someone, you should walk a mile in their shoes. That way, when you criticize them, you're a mile away and you have their shoes.

"When from a long distant past nothing persists, after the people are dead, after things are broken and scattered, still alone, more persistent, more faithful, the smell and taste of things remain poised a long, long time like souls, ready to remind us, waiting, hoping for their moment amid the ruins of all the rest, and bear unfaltering in the tiny and almost impalpable drop of their essence the vast structure of recollection."

I've just read about mudflats. They can be very dangerous. However, I hear that it's still common for people to walk on them. I guess it's one of those things where you can walk on them 100 times, and 99 times you'll be okay. But all it takes is that 1 traumatic event.

Mudflats are dangerous primarily for two reasons.

    1) The mud is unstable in some areas. You can step into a sinkhole, and not be able to get yourself out. It's kind of like quicksand.

    2) The tides can come in and swallow you up. Even if your not stuck in the quicksand, you may not be able to run fast enough to get to safety. And you won't be able to swim very far because the water is so cold, you will soon die of hypothermia.

Many people have accidentally died in the mudflats. It's unfortunate, but that's Mother Nature. I would warn anyone of going out on one. And if you do, make sure you bring some buddies and study up on the tide schedule so you won't get surprised.

Given the details, I'm suspecting in went like this. Nancy left the parents' house between 5:30 - 6:00 PM. She went to Kincaid Park. Decided to go running out in the mudflats. She got stuck in the mud. And eventually got taken over by the tides. No foul play is suspected.

However, there are some that are still questioning the theory that she was murdered. But I don't believe this. The murderer would have to risk being seen and caught by abducting her at a park during daylight hours. Then risk being seen or killed dragging her body to the mudflats. To risky, I would have dumped her somewhere else.

And I can't imagine that Nancy would commit suicide using an elaborate plan of being washed over in the mudflats to make it look like an accident. There are easier, less traumatic ways to take your own life.

Still, I don't understand why she was wearing jeans if she was supposed to be going out running. Maybe she took them off and left them in her car. High temperature is 65F in Achorage. But what's really unfortunate is that she left her cell phone at home. Maybe just an unfortunate coincidence. Or not...
