An unidentified, badly decomposed body was found in south Weld County early Monday by a duck hunter in the Banner Lakes area.

Until an autopsy is completed, little is known about the body. Weld County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Margie Martinez said officers couldn't tell if it was male or female because of the decomposition. The body was found under a tree.

"But the body was mostly skeletonized," said deputy coroner Chris Robillard. "It probably won't be possible to determine how long it had been there because weather factors play such a large part in decomposition.

He and Martinez agreed the body could have been there for at least of couple of weeks and possibly even months.

He may have been a murder victim who was dumped there

The body, described as a male, in his 20s or 30s, about 6 feet tall and 200 pounds, was badly decomposed, and identification can't be confirmed without a DNA test.

The test is still in the labs, according to Weld County Undersheriff Margie Martinez, and one of the metro-area police stations has shown interest in the case. Detectives in the department believe the unknown man may be a victim from one of their cases.
