Body in burned pickup confirmed to be man from Elgin

WADENA - Fayette County Sheriff Marty Fisher has confirmed that the body found in a burning pickup on Jan. 22 about
four miles northwest of Wadena, is that of Layne Schneider, 22, of Elgin.

The accident happened in the early morning hours near the intersection of Echo Road and 180th Street. Rescue workers did not know there was anyone in the pickup until firefighters extinguished the fire
(According to the article, Schneider was in a truck owned by his roommate. The vehicle reportedly struck a tree, and started to burn.)

Schneiders body was sent to the State Medical Examiners office for an autopsy.
Fayette County Sheriff Marty Fisher said the case was being considered an accident but that the investigation was ongoing.
Laynes family and friends believe he was murdered. According to correspondence sent to Iowa Cold Cases, a number of people have stepped up to provide information to law enforcement regarding the alleged accident, although no arrests have yet been made in the case.
