Perhaps voters should have thought twice when Brazilian mayoral candidate Beto Rocha was banned from running after corruption allegations and they voted his wife into the position instead. The town, Bom Jardim, is one of the poorest in Brazil but wife and mayor Lidiane Leite seemed to be doing very well:
Thursday, police issued a warrant for Leite's arrest amidst allegations that $4 million has gone missing from funding for local schools and that she's actually been running the town via WhatsApp on her phone, because she's living 150 miles away. Leite is now reported to be on the run.

"Before I was mayor I was poor, and had a Land Rover," she wrote on Instagram, according to Brazilian newspaper Folha de Sao Paulo. "Now I'm in a Toyota SW4. I should have bought a better car, because thanks to God money is no longer a problem."
