Outfitted in camouflage and armed with a high-powered rifle and 100 rounds of ammunition, Robert Seth Denton fatally shot his mother, stepfather and grandmother while six children witnessed the carnage in the family's double-wide mobile home in eastern Tennessee, a sheriff said Monday.

Killed were Denton's mother, Toshya Millhorn, 39; his stepfather, James Millhorn, 36; and his grandmother, Lena Rose, 57.

Not sure if there was a thread for this tragic case. The 19 year old perp apparently lived elsewhere... so why did he have to slaughter them ? And in front of children, too. :(
So much anger behind this despicable act. :shakehead:

:moo:

Rest in peace ; Toshya, James, and Lena !

Eta: RD does not appear to have a facebook or other social media accounts. Haven't checked about the deceased victims.

"We have gained a lot of information that he has hated his mother for most of his life," Anderson said. "He had made statements ... over the years that he wanted to kill her." He didn't offer details about the cause of the enmity. The information was based on police interviews with relatives and others who know Denton, the sheriff said.

Who knows what went on in the mind of this young man ?
Maybe he was forced to leave because he was of age and had become difficult to deal with, or out of control ?

As a child, Denton had lived in the trailer where the shootings occurred, but most recently lived in a Bristol apartment, the sheriff's office said.

Pretty easy to try to smear the reputations of the victims, now that they are unable to answer back. :(
And murder is NOT the way to solve anything !

The sheriff was been investigating his past. He said Denton did not have a local criminal history, but he was generally discharged from the military. Investigators are trying to find out why.

The video at this ^ link says "dishonorably discharged".

As for the weapon, Anderson said it was a high-powered rifle. He wasn't sure what type of gun it was, saying he'd never seen one like it before
Maybe it was sawed off ?

Will try to post updates if it's in the media.
My .02 is that the people closest to them might understand why this happened ; but they may not want to talk about it.

Man pleads not guilty to killing family members
BLOUNTVILLE — A Bristol man accused of killing his mother, stepfather and grandmother pleaded not guilty to three counts of first-degree murder, two counts of aggravated assault, one count of reckless endangerment and one count of misdemeanor assault.

Robert Seth Denton, 19, formerly of King College Road in Bristol, entered the plea of not guilty during a court appearance on Friday. A grand jury indicted Denton on the charges in January.

Usually a trial date would have been set, but Sullivan County District Attorney General Barry Staubus requested another court appearance in March.

Just because he told others he hated his mom and wanted to kill her, does not mean she was a bad mother or harmed him in anyway. It could be signs of the start of a mental illness, IMO.

Jury selection begins for murder trial in Sullivan County

District Attorney Barry Staubus and defense attorney Douglas Payne have been questioning potential jurors asking questions like if anyone has already formed an opinion, if they would have sympathy toward Denton because he was 19 when accused of committing the crimes, or if any of them has a family member or friend accused of or charged with first-degree murder.

Agreed.

It's easy to say anything about the victims... who cannot defend themselves !!
And why did he murder the others ?
Were they 'unkind' to him, as well ?

What a horrid perp.

Thirty or forty years ago if you did not like where you were living or who you were living with, you ran the moment you turned 18. Whatever happened to that American sense of freedom and independence?
