Paul C. Mayes, 32, Indianapolis, was charged Friday with murder in connection with the strangulation of Summer Sheese, a 25-year-old Indianapolis woman whose body was found stuffed in the trunk of a vehicle.

A driver for AAA Hoosier Motor Club found Sheese's body Aug. 10 after the wrecker was called to the 1800 block of West 66th Street because someone had seen a "strange substance" leaking from a car, police said.

Paul Mayes was convicted in Marion Superior Court of murder and sentenced to a term of fifty-five years...

On Tuesday, August 9, 2005, at around 2 a.m., Summer Sheese left the Indianapolis motel room where she had been staying. She told a friend that she would be right back, left on foot, and took nothing with her. Shortly thereafter, Sheese met Mayes...

Mayes claims that when he awoke he found Sheese’s dead body next to his Jeep. He then placed the body in his car and drove around until he reached his grandmother’s house. There, Mayes placed Sheese’s body in the trunk of his mother’s inoperable Toyota Corolla...

An autopsy of Sheese revealed that she had died between twenty-four and thirty- six hours before her body was discovered on Wednesday morning. She died as a result of strangulation, stab wounds, and multiple blunt force injuries.
