26-year-old blind Tibetan Kyila spent the first 12 years of her life just waiting to be washed, fed and dressed, she says. Then she went to a school set up by blind German woman, Sabriye Tenberken:
It inspired Kyila to set up her own non-profit school for blind children of poor farmers in Xigaze, Tibet called 'Kiki's (Happiness) Kindergarten'. Staring with just eight pupils, the school now has 26 where they learn to read braille, sing, paint with scented crayons, dance and play musical instruments. Now Kiki's is set to move to an improved facility in Lhasa, where the children, who are boarders, will have better access to medical care.
