FL - Michael Diaz, 2, Critical Condition, Dog Attack, Plant City, 4 Aug 2015

The child was airlifted to Tampa General Hospital where he underwent surgery and is expected to recover. There have been no updates on the child's condition. The family surrendered their dog, who was then euthanized within hours after the incident.

The dog had recently given birth to four puppies, and it is thought she may have been protecting her puppies. One of the puppies was found dead and another one died of pre-existing conditions. The child's mother was inside of the home and did not know her son, Michael Diaz had been injured until the Good Samaritan who helped to save the little boy, knocked on the door of the home.

The two surviving puppies are in the care of Second Chance Boxer Rescue. They have been named Calvin and Cookie and are being treated for intestinal parasites, but are on their way to becoming healthy and will soon be available for adoption.
