107 people have been killed and hundreds injured after a massive crane collapsed on crowds at the Grand Mosque in Mecca, Saudi Arabia, during Friday prayers. Graphic scenes of crushed bodies have been shown on media.

The Grand Mosque was undergoing reconstruction work but remained open and was ringed by huge cranes which towered above the crowds without any protection. There were strong winds Friday.

Saudi Arabia recently offered to construct mosques in Germany for recently arrived refugees, instead of offering to take any refugees itself.
