Germany - 'Islamist' shot dead in Berlin, policewoman stabbed
A man of Iraqi origin who German authorities are calling an 'Islamist' has been shot dead in the Spandau district of Berlin, after he stabbed a policewoman. He'd been threatening people in the street with a knife.
Police said the man lived in Berlin and had been sentenced to prison by the regional court in Stuttgart in 2008. He was subsequently released on parole and also wore an electronic tag, which he removed on Thursday morning before the attack.
ETA: Wasn't sure if this was a terrorist attack but looks like it was. I should have put this story in our terrorist thread.
Berlin police said on Twitter: "He had been convicted of being a member of a terrorist association and of being involved in a plot to murder the Iraqi prime minister."....He has been named as Rafik Mohamad Yousef, who was handed a prison sentence by a court in Stuttgart in 2008 for membership of a terrorist organisation. We 'embraced' the missing Bob Harrod case as requested but 6 years on, are still waiting for further guidance
