Brandon Willie Martin, 22, a former shortstop prospect the Tampa Bay Rays picked in the first round of the 2011 MLB draft, was arrested Friday as a suspect in the shooting murders of his father and another man and the wounding of his uncle.

Martin is a suspect in the killing of 64-year-old Michael Martin and a 62-year-old acquaintance, Barry Swanson, on Thursday. He is also suspected in the shooting of his uncle, 51-year-old Ricky Lee Anderson, who is on life support with critical injuries, according to reports.

Police saw Martin driving the truck of one of the victims. He then led police on a chase and broke into a home while a woman was showering. The woman was reportedly unharmed. Martin jumped out of a second-story window from the home into the backyard. He was then apprehended and bitten by a K-9 and escorted to an ambulance on a stretcher.

Martin was detained for a mental health evaluation on Tuesday, police said.

Triple-murder trial for former Rays prospect Brandon Martin scheduled for September

The triple-murder trial for former Tampa Bay Rays prospect Brandon Martin is scheduled to start Sept. 25 in Riverside County Superior Court.

The trial is expected to last at least 60 days, according to court records.

Martin, a supplemental first-round draft pick of the Rays in June 2011, is charged with bludgeoning his father and two other men to death with a baseball bat in September 2015. Martin pleaded not guilty.

During a hearing last week, Judge Michael B. Donner found Martin “has no financial resources whatsoever” and doesn’t have the ability to pay for defense counsel without public assistance.

Judge Bambi J. Moyer found Martin mentally competent to stand trial last year. Prosecutors intend to seek the death penalty if he’s convicted.

*bump*

Sorry to dig this out. I was grew up and was living in this neighborhood at the time this happened and went to high school with the guy.
I can’t for the life of me find the results of this case? Is there a more advanced sleuth than I who can find out what happened?
