From August 2014
The skeletal remains found near Hayward Lake in May have been identified as those belonging to Mission resident Laura Pesek.

She had gone missing 4 May 2014. Here is a missing persons article, asking for assistance in locating her. http://www.missioncityrecord.com/news/206661501.html?mobile=true

From a complete lack of any follow-up articles (save the article where her remains were identified), I'm leaning towards this not being foul play.

Seems you are correct about the no foul play involved.

The BC Coroners Service continues to investigate this death. Foul play has now been ruled out.
