Bodies found in burned...rental car behind...home

A rented 2015 Kia Soul was found Sunday, burned with two bodies in the back seat, in a wooded area behind an unoccupied house in rural Crawford County....

“The bodies were burned pretty extensively” and had not been identified by late Monday, said J.T. Ricketson, the agent in charge of the GBI’s Perry field office.

Autopsies may not be performed until Wednesday, due to a backlog at the Macon crime lab.

Ricketson said agents hope the autopsies will show if the people in the car were alive when the car was burned and what caused their deaths....

...Agents also are checking missing-persons reports....

...Anyone with information is asked to call the GBI’s Perry field office at 987-4545 or the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office at 836-3116....

Possible, I suppose, but two men versus one, and it's on the other side of Atlanta, several hours away, so it doesn't seem terribly likely. The car was rented and the article says the police have talked to the renter, so it wasn't George's car, either.

[h=1]Autopsy: Two men found in car were shot to death

Interesting about the search warrant in Macon County. Hmmm, must have been a pretty credible lead. (And, for non-Georgians, know that Macon County is NOT the location of Macon --the city-- GA, which is in Bibb County.)

Was thinking news on this had completely dried up, but did find an older update that I had somehow missed:

GBI investigating link between bodies in car, house fire

The GBI is investigating whether the two bodies found in a burning Crawford County car last week were connected to a suspicious house fire in Montezuma the same morning....

...The house fire happened on the morning of Sept. 20 at 320 MLK Drive in Montezuma.

That's the same morning the two men, who are still unidentified, were found in the burning car, a 2015 Kia Soul, in woods in Crawford County....

...Ricketson said they have leads on what happened and are working now to build probable cause....

...He said the GBI also believes they know they identities of the two men found in the burning car, but they're awaiting dental recoreds that they hope will confirm that....
