"It is unknown at this point if the remains are male or female, but they appear to be adult human remains," Capt. Van Jackson of Lee County Sheriff's Office said.
Some deteriorated articles of clothing were located in close proximity to the scene, Jackson said.
"It is also unknown exactly how long the remains have been in the area, but it appears that they have been there for an extended period of time due to their condition at time of discovery," he said.

Officials said people who owns the property spotted an adult human skull and other human skeletal near a creek bed northeast of Lee Road 241 Sunday around 4:16 p.m. CDST. They reported their discovery to authorities, Lee County Sheriff Jay Jones said.
Authorities found some articles of clothing in close proximity of the scene that were in an "advanced stage of deterioration," Jones said. Officials believe that the remains have been in the woods for at least one year, he added.

He says his neighbor’s son was down by Uchee Creek taking senior pictures when the human remains were discovered along with deteriorated clothes nearby.
“It’s hunting tracks on the other side of the creek and we hunt there. It’s pretty well hunted during the winter time and stuff but it’s pretty secluded during the summer,” says Britton.
