KEWOOD - Lakewood Police arrested Roman Paul Morales on Tuesday in connection with the death of a 2-year-old boy found unresponsive in a Lakewood apartment Monday.
The 21-year-old is in custody for suspicion of first-degree murder. He will appear in court Wednesday morning.
Lakewood Police say they received a call saying the boy had been missing shortly before noon on Monday.
The family tells 9NEWS the victim, 2-year-old Donnie Ro'Mello Romero, would've turned three in a week. They also say the suspect is Donny's cousin on his mother's side.
Neighbors told 9NEWS on Monday that about 20 minutes before he was found, Donnie's family had been knocking on doors around the apartment complex looking for him.
They later found Donnie in the 2500 block of South Sheridan Boulevard.
Donnie was unconscious and rushed to the hospital.
He was pronounced dead at around 2 p.m. His mother and at least two other adults were also inside when Donny was found.

LAKEWOOD, Colo. (CBS4) Police in Lakewood hope video cameras at an apartment complex will help them get a better picture of how a toddler was killed Monday.
Two-year-old Donnie Romello Romero was found dead in a closed container with a cord wrapped around his neck in the apartment where the boy lived. Roman Paul Isaiah Morales, 21, has been arrested in connection with the boys death. Hes facing charges of first-degree murder and is due to appear in court on Wednesday.
"They think he did have something wrapped around his neck," Lakewood Police Department spokesperson Steve Davis said.
"They wrapped a cord around my son's neck," said Donny Romero, the victim's father. "Put him in a tote, put a blanket over it and then closed it with the lid. We have no explanation why anything happened."
