"A 35-year-old Dorchester man allegedly killed the cherubic 2 1⁄2-year-old girl who came to be known as “Baby Doe” because he “supposedly thought the child had demons in her,” a tipster in Billerica told police during a phone call Wednesday, breaking open a heartbreaking murder case that touched millions around the world."

Between 2001 and 2006, the Department of Children and Families terminated parental rights for two of her mother's older children. One of the children was later adopted by her maternal grandmother; the other was adopted by someone outside the family, DCF officials said.

McCarthy has been arrested in the past on drug charges, domestic violence and motor vehicle violations.
    .......
Bond has a much longer rap sheet from Worcester County during the late 90s and early 2000ís. She was arrested for assault and battery, receiving stolen property, larceny and prostitution.

In all, she has more than 20 different criminal cases in a little over a decade.

Between October 2006 and June 2011, court filings show Bond’s life spiraling out of control. During that period she was arrested more than a dozen times for charges including possessing crack cocaine, possessing heroin, selling pills and prostitution.

In April 2008, Bond was arrested in Fitchburg for offering to perform sexual acts on an undercover cop for $40. Two years later, she was arrested on Dorchester Avenue for the same thing, this time offering to service an undercover Boston cop for $20.

Amoroso said he has been in Florida and returned to Massachusetts in August. He said Bond stayed with him in Lynn on Thursday night and he was questioned Friday.

Seems timely that she was with baby-daddy on Thursday and then she's arrested on Friday. JMO

Joseph Amoroso arrived in Boston several weeks back on what he said was a mission to meet his 2 Ĺ-year-old daughter for the first time.

He visited Bella Bond’s home on Maxwell Street in Dorchester twice, he said, only to be told by the girl’s mother, Rachelle Bond, that the girl was on Cape Cod. Her darting eyes told a different story. By the end of last week, after they had spent about 24 hours together, he said she told him the awful truth.

“Our daughter is dead,” Amoroso claimed Bond confessed to him. “The guy that’s been living in my house murdered our daughter.”

"Amoroso claims that Bond told him that McCarthy had held her against her will and injected heroin straight into her jugular to keep her docile.

McCarthy is currently hospitalized for abscesses in his arms due to heroin use, according to an official with knowledge of the investigation, and Amoroso claimed that Bond told him she was only able to escape after his hospitalization."

    BOSTON —

The "Baby Doe" mystery broke open due to a tip to Boston Police detectives, leading police to identify the child and arrest her mother and her mother's boyfriend.

"I'm a mother. As a mother, it's unimaginable someone would do that and I'm just glad I was able to have a small part in giving Bella a name," said the woman who called in the tip. FOX25 has agreed not to identify her.

Amoroso also said Rachelle told him last week that Bella was killed some two months before her tiny body was found on the shore of Deer Island. Rachelle, he said, told him how she and McCarthy stuffed Bellaís body into a trash bag and dumped it into the harbor off South Bostonís city point. Amoroso said he and Bond talked about going to the FBI, but never did. Bond, he said, texted someone else about Bellaís death and that person notified police.

It would be easy and cynical to say that Trooper Dan Herman, Detective Lieutenant Jack Lannon, Lieutenant Bob Murphy, and Sergeant Scott Holland were just doing their jobs. But they and so many other investigators from Winthrop and surrounding police departments went above and beyond.

From the moment they stood on the shoreline, staring at Baby Doe’s body, Herman and Holland vowed they would not rest until they found out who she was and why she died.

Herman, the lead investigator, drove around with that digitally-created image of Bella taped to his dashboard.
And on Saturday morning, 24 hours after solving the biggest mystery of their careers, Dan Herman’s State Police colleagues were back on that same craggy shoreline, in Revere, a few miles north of where they found Bella Bond’s body. This time it was an unidentified woman’s body.

Dan Herman couldn’t join them. He was back at the office, on what was supposed to be a day off, still working for Bella.

Bless every one of these officers and investigators working so diligently every single day.

Two months before? So that would put Bella's death sometime in April? I believe a previous article stated that neighbors report last seeing Bella sometime around March or April too..

McCarthy’s relatives declined to comment. He is being represented by attorney Jonathan Shapiro, who said in an interview that his client remains hospitalized.

“Obviously he will be entering a plea of not guilty, and that’s all I can say about the case,” Shapiro said."

How Could the State Not Know ‘Baby Doe’?

    --snip--

Suffolk County District Attorney says McCarthy murdered Bella “intentionally” and “by an act of violence,” but so far no details of that violent act have been released. Connolly says more details may be revealed at McCarthy’s arraignment on Monday.

For now, even McCarthy’s attorney Jonathan Shapiro is unaware of the specific allegations against his client.

But, with what appears to be a lack of physical evidence, Shapiro wonders if Bella’s case may play out like another famous trial involving a dead toddler—one where the mother got off.

This could be like the Caylee Anthony case,” he told The Daily Beast.

DCF to review its cases on Bella Bond

Baker says agency will institute new rules after death

The state Department of Children and Families will review its involvement with the little girl found dead on a Deer Island beach in June and move swiftly to implement a series of recommendations to identify and protect children at risk, Governor Charlie Baker said Sunday.

DCF will “take a good look at the case” and update its risk assessment and intake systems, Baker said while attending an event in South Boston. “Tragedies like this illustrate just how important it is we get this done and get it done quickly.”

Bella Bond, known to the world only as “Baby Doe” until the arrests last week of her mother and her mother’s boyfriend, had been the subject of a DCF investigation twice before — in 2012 and 2013 — following reports of neglect made to the agency. DCF spokeswoman Andrea Grossman said the agency is unable to discuss the details of the case, which was closed over two years ago under the previous administration.
